Default '27 John Deere "D" timing w/Eisemann mag

Can someone explain the procedure for timing an Eisemann Mag (K15970) to a 1927 John Deere mod. "D" tractor.

I am sure there is a better way but I simply put the #1 cylinder on top dead center, just fire the magneto and attach it to the engine without moving either the engine or the mag. Adjust the jaws of the coupler until the mag can be slid in without turning it. It is really simple and works every time. Before trying to start the tractor,
be sure to slowly roll the engine through noting where it fires just in case something is off a bit.
