The trip rod appears to be old style though.
That ignitor is not the same as my late ignitor. I can see the piece with the clamp screw that mounts on the ignitor shaft. It also does not have the conical spring on the outside end of the shaft.

Also I was mistaken about the serial # it is 889*** which I believe is a 1947 model, with head no sparkplug.
That serial number does check out to be 1947, but I find it hard to believe that Fairbanks Morse was building an ignitor fired engine at that date. Every engine I have seen of that vintage was spark plug fired and used a Fairbanks Morse FMJ magneto.

Junkologist,
Your right about your engine having a different igniter. Fairbanks used 2 styles for the 1 1/2 hp Headless a 1 spring igniter ( Early Engines 1915 & 1916 Like my engine ) and 2 Spring igniter ( Late Engines 1917& 1918, I know some one who also has a 1919 one too) Is it possible that this engine has a 1 1/2 Plug Oscillator head on it? If so I will trade a good (correct head) head for that head.
sawdusttv your picture did not come through
