Default What engine manufacturers are still in business that was started before 1900?

How many manufacturers of farm equipment tractors, engines before 1900 are still in business? Like IHC, John Deere, etc. Lets start a list and see how many.

Lennox started building engines in 1894 with their verticle pumper engine. They don't sell engines now of course, but are definately still in business.

This is a little shady in my memory but i THINK for farm equipment tractors, Allis chalmers would be one. I've seen 1890's engines with Allis equipment and to this day Allis-chamlers is still around even though there new name is AGCO allis. Or it was,...last time i knew.

ONLY one company that I can think of that were building slow speed engines before 1900 and are still building slow speed engines to this day by the same name is AJAX. Today the company is known as Cameron. Formally Cooper Cameron, formally Cooper Bessemer ect ect ect.

Ford counts! Although those particular engines were for industry. not for distribution. Today thats strictly an automotive department.

There was recently a descendant company of Crossley Bros. go out of business in England so they would have counted...

Although they didn't really get into marketing Engines untill 1905 International Harvester dates back to Cylus McCormick in 1831. International was an amalgamation of many companies predominatly McCormick and Deering as well as Milwaukee Harvester. During the 1890's they built an experimental steam traction engine, an automobile, although I can't find any record of who built the engine in it. In 1981 International went through bank ruptcy and discontinued the light truck line, but the bigger trucks are still being produced as Navistar International, and the Farm Tractors Division merged with Case Tractor and is Case International.

Hi Guys,

What about Benz, they made engines before 1900 and are still around today as Mercedes Benz.

In Sweden, in the 1890s a company called Davy Robertson made engines, under Capitaine's license. They shortened the name and exist today as the Daros Company, making piston rings.

Regards,
wayne

Of course we have to mention Munktells of Eskilstuna and Bolinders of Stockholm. Become Bolinder-Munktell (BM) and then BM Volvo, Volvo BM and so on until we all lost the any chance to follow all the various name combinations over the years. Still in good shape with their yellow loaders, named Volvo. There is a lot of the early Swedish early engine makers that has been emerged into the concern we meet today.
