Photo 1929 Cooper Mower

Hi Guys,
I`m trying to find out any information I can on this neat old Cooper Mower I just purchased. It`s not even Home here yet but at a Friends House, he picked it up for me.
Thank you for any help you can give.

Fred

Fred,

Sorry I dont have any info on either one of your mowers but I,m sure someone here will help ya out. And as far as the trading is concerned, My wife has becomed very attached to the Tri Trac and a trade might be detrimental to both of our health

Hello Fred,
That engine looks like it has two rocker arms and two push rods.
If I am correct then the engine is a Briggs & Stratton FI.

I have a 1928 FI Cooper like that and my friend Jim Ricci told me that was their first year of mowers so yours is an early one. They also made those mowers for Bolens. He is the person to contact for info.

Hello Mark,
I don`t have them home yet, they are at a Friends House, he picked them up for me and maybe this Sunday my Wife and I can make the trip down to Green Bay to get them. I`ll let you know what the tag say when I get the beauties home, there is also a Evinrude Mower with it.

Hi RustyKnutt,
I have been searching around here with local adds and just word of mouth but it seems like I have to head out of Town for any nice finds.
I just got Home from Green Bay with my three Rare finds and am thrilled to find the engines are all free. The Cooper has the F1 engine on it, I don`t know what they are worth but I`m sure I would get back my money for what I paid for the Mower.
Good luck Hunting, that`s the fun part too,

Fred

Hi Mark, I have the Cooper and other Mowers Home now and after some light cleaning the tag says a FT Briggs, I don`t know enough about these Engines so my searching will start soon.
The Motor turns over freely and when I drained the oil it was as clear and clean as if put in this morning.
I tried several times to upload pictures but nothing is happening right now with that.

Looked again with another set of younger eyes and a better set of glasses and founf the faint mark below the one so the Engine is a F1.
It sure got this old guy confused for awhile.

Mark, the engine is an F1, I tried getting sprk but no luck, I took the flywheel off and cleaned the inside but still no luck, have you had this problem? I posted on this form under the small engines asking for help and did attach some pictures.
Thanks,

Are the points shiny not pitted and ajusted right? if they are either your flywheel magnets are bad(if they have even a little magnitism they are good) your condencer is bad , your mag is bad, or a wire(probally the sparkplug wire)is grounding out. Also if you are testing your spark with the sparkplg, try a brand new one that is properly adjusted.

Hi Greg,
I know the plug wire needs a lot to be desired, the flywheel does have magnitism because my screw driver sticks to it and it grabs while putting it on. The condenser is orginal and I`m hearing that could be it. The points seem to be set at twenty five thousands so I`m guessing that is right?
Thank you,

Fred

The points should be at 18 thousandts, and verry clean. try that first. if that doesnt work try the condencer and then the plug wire.
