Question Elecrolysis & Aluminum

I have some aluminum pistons that have become one with their steel wristpins & rods. What would happen to the aluminum if I put them in an elecrolysis tank?

Default Re: Elecrolysis & Aluminum

I would imagine it would dissolve.

A friend works at an anodizing shop and tells me if there is any bit of steel embedded in an aluminum part which goes through the process, it will cause the aluminum around it to dissolve away.

But maybe one could arrange the conditions to not do this? It would be tough because aluminum is much more reactive than steel and tends to sacrificially protect the steel.
