Default IHC Horizontal 6hp

Attached is a picture of the name plate on the 6hp. IHC engine I brought home yesterday:

The name tag on my other IHC engines of that era say "FAMOUS" or "TITAN". This one is called a "IHC HORIZONTAL". Any reason for the different name? Also anyone knows what the "E" on the tag under the serial number stands for?

I have Wendel's Notebook and the indication in it is that my engine H4051 is rated at 6hp., is a gasoline engine, is a stationary engine and is tank cooled and was built in 1909.

Well one thing is incorrect, my 6hp. IHC Horizontal has a water hopper. Even the guy who sold me the engine was calling it a TITAN. Don't know where he got that name from?

I do not have good pictures of this engine yet but I would like you what you might know about these IHC engines.

Thank you!

Looks to be originally a 1909 Stationary Tank Cooled.

Could have lived a life much like my 4 HP Famous that was originally a TC engine with a hopper from a Titan modified at a later date (?)

I will have to check the serial number stamped on the head and on the water hopper to see if they matches the serial number on the name tag.

Well, I checked the serial number on the head and it matches the serial number on the name tag. As for a serial number on the water hopper, seems like there is not a serial number on it.

Perhaps a little too early to draw conclusions, but it is possible that this engine was born as a "water tanked" engine and the cylinder went bad for some reason and was replaced by a water hopper cylinder, not taken from another engine but directly from the IHC factory, thus the lack of a serial number on the water hopper part???

I'm now heading to my other place to unload this engine and get ready for my next trip to pick up my 4hp. Famous.

Without a serial no.likely the cyl is a replacement. Ihc dropped having the words international harvester on the cyl sometime 1912/13. Your engine also has the earlier 4 bolt fws. Rob

Hi Everyone

In Rob's post he mentions the engine has the rare 4 Bolt flywheels, I could be wrong but it looks to me that the governor side flywheel has been replaced with a later style 2 bolt flywheel. Looks to me that possibly the engine was involved in an accident somewhere in it's past.
just my 2 cents for what it's worth.

If it wasn't for the name tags. I wouldn't know the difference between these two engines. One 1911 famous the Titan is on the cart.
