This is the assembled cart, front view, front axel support, rear axel with supports and a rear view of the cart . I still have a few little things to do like the front limit chains and tongue brackets, chains, etc. Then it all comes apart for detailing, stain and paint . Now to get the right model to put on it......... . BOY am I ever having fun in NJ on the way through.

After checking out some other options for the tongue hitch clip, and finding nothing useful at the “box” stores , I resorted back to the pendaflex file folder holder metal I had at hand. One never knows when saved “STUFF” will come in handy for projects, if you can find it . Anyway, I cut it to the appropriate length, punched a couple of holes for the 8-32 eye bolts, and just bent it to fit over the axel. Installed the 8-32 eye bolts and that’s done . I need a couple more eye bolts for the frame chain connection, the appropriate chain to limit the front axel swing, and to make up a tongue. Gee, I'm almost done......... with this project .

Lookin' good Paul. I made a trigger guard for an old Winchester 22 of my Dads. I used a Milwaukee Sawzall blade, but wowee those things are HARD! I had to grind it to width, and punch the holes when red hot.

I spent a bit of time thinking about how to make the tongue and decided to just cut out a piece of ½” square oak for the cross bar and center bar. I decided to put the fillets on each one like on an original, so I set up the bars in the mill and with a countersink bit, I milled all the fillets, one at a time and sanded off the sharp edges. The tongue will sure look better this way than just plain ½” square oak. I took some of the saved pendaflex folder hanger metal and made the cross/center bar supports, drilled and punched a few holes .

Then I put the tongue together . I made the tongue so that it would stay up all by itself . Here are a couple of photos of the assembled Tongue on the trucks .

I dug around in the small chain box and selected the right looking chain for the axel swing limits. After some measuring and checking the swing limits, I installed the chain to the axels and frame. The wheels do not touch the frame and swing an equal distance left to right . Just about done except for maybe putting a seat set up on the trucks .

I pulled the MOGUL Side/Shaft model off the shelf and set it on the scale trucks even though it is still on the skids. Just had to see what it looks like sitting their , and I liked what I saw . I’ll need to make a few minor modifications to the set up going forward, but that was expected .

G Day Paul, I have been lurking in the background watching this build and no wonder you liked what you saw, I liked what I saw too. I think anyone following along would be impressed with your work, Great Job. Thanks for sharing.
Love those IHC engines.

Bundy Bear: Thanks for the comments.

After seeing the model on the trucks, I got another to make a good thing better . I stopped at the big barn up north and in the darkness took a few photos of a possible addition. I didn’t have time to take a bunch of initial full sized measurements that I can scale down. BUT, I can probably do that over the weekend if I can drag myself away from the “FLEA” market, while having “FUN” , even in NJ, on the way through .

I’m making another one , a bit at a time. I got the 5th wheel (bolster) done, the 4 wheel hubs started, the channels cut, and some ½” x ½” oak cut . Just making chips and sawdust while having fun on the way through, even in NJ .

I got the spoke holes drilled and threaded in the hubs, the wheel rims drilled, rolled and welded together, and cut and threaded the spokes. Just had to look out for the 12 legged spiders on the bench . Got a couple of the wheels put together and all is looking good . Took my completed truck and the parts for the second one to the local engine club meeting for show and tell last night, and got a few folks all wound up . Heck, I’m just trying to have fun, even in NJ on the way through .

I took my ¼ scale model trucks to the Whately Mass Museum show this past weekend 9-15/16-2012 as just an item to “show” , which I did. It sure drew a lot of interest from the modelers and many others at the show . Here is a photo of what I had on display .

After recovering from the weekend trip with KK, I continued on with the build of the shorter set of trucks. By this afternoon I had it pretty much assembled and looking good. I brazed up the spokes and cleaned up the wheels. I still have some wood work to do like making the tongue and some stain & paint. BUT, I couldn’t wait to put the ¼ scale Mogul S/S model on the trucks, so I did. I had a few fitting issues and with some minor modifications, and drilling the mounting holes for the engine and fuel tank, I got it done. No castings were used on the truck build, and they came out quite nice just using materials available at the big box stores .

CHECK IT OUT…

After the Friday “FLEA” market run where I always find a few goodies for someone in the family (me included), I decided to take one of the wheels off, clean it up bit and paint it. Just because they come off easily, I got carried away and did all four . The rest of the truck (frame and axels) will have to wait for paint till after taking the model off , and doing all the little clean up items on the trucks , I might make a few changes down the road to the fuel tank, battery box and add some options 's. Thanks Mick - down under for the photo. ……………

Here are a few photos of my ¼ scale 4HP Mogul S/S on the trucks I made for it . With the wheels painted, and a different tool box, it looks a bit better . One of these days I’ll get around to taking things apart , staining the wood and painting the rest of the trucks .
