Link worked fine. Pretty hard to tell the carb mounts at a 45 degree angle from the illustration though. Don't see why an adapter plate wouldn't work as long as linkages hook up properly.

Bill,
That is the way it looks except mine has a side draft carb. My s12d looks the same.

Did you buy the S-8D new, or could someone have switched the carb before you aquired the engine? I checked a couple of different manuals and they both show the updraft carb on the S-8D.

The SD14 uses a L-95-S1 Carb. From looking in the book it is the same as the L-86 series except for the float valve, main jet and carb shaft. The L-86 might be eaisier to find and look for those other items one at a time.

Bill,
It came on a new auger made by a small manufacturing shop. I doubt they were a large enough place to have engines made to their specs. If the carb. has been changed it had linkage changed with it. The side draft carb. throttle shaft is a lot higher and the linkage has to make a big bend up then bend back to straight. It would be a little tricky for someone to have made that piece of linkage. Therefore it looks factory or at least from another engine where everything lined up just like this series.

Maybe Wisconsin changed over the the updraft carbs to the the sidedraft carbs on later production engines? Might be some cost savings utilizing the same carbs as other engines in the S--D series.

s the side draft does anyone have the l-86 carb that is a side draft. any pic's. is there one for sale. there is no saving my carb, the part that was damaged is pressed in at the factory and not sold. my only choice seems to be finding a carb like mine or adapting a carb
