Default Venn Severin Oil Change

The SIAM club hopes to have the Venn Severin running for the Classic Iron Show (June 8-10). We are changing the oil in the engine and don't what what grade of oil to use. The book says "Gargoyle DTE" but no weight spec. I'm thinking straight 40wt like a 2 cycle Detroit. Some say 15W-40. What do the Stakers think? P.S. This is a 2cycle - 100hp engine.

Either 40wt or 15-40 will be fine does not matter. Both are better than the oil it got when new.

My product comparison charts for lubricants show the "Gargoyle" named oils from Mobil as being refrigerant and ice machine oils in several viscosities and 1 #2 grease. The Mobil oils designated "DTE" were a full viscosity range of Hydraulic oils and turbine oils. Some were anti wear (AW) oils and some just having rust and oxidation (R&O) inhibitors. I believe Mobil still designates these non-engine oils as DTE xxx. Modern engine oils deal with contaminants from the combustion process better through their additives. Big clearances in big engines need higher viscosity oils. But we are taught lighter viscosities create less heat and cool the bearing better???
