Smile 1904 Stationary, Marine, Gas and Locomotive Engines 437 + pages with gold leaf

on the page edges found in a box (for $5) of books at a sale. It’s basically a Steam Engine book with chapters on Gas, Oil and Hot Air Engines by N. Hawkins, M.E. It has information on Stationary, Marine and Locomotive Steam engines: Steam Fire engines, Pumping, Hoisting and Portable Steam Engines; Gas, Oil and Air Engines. There are two pictures of the OTTO(horizontal & Vertical ), One of a FOOS, New Era, Simplex, Hornsby-Akroyd stationary and portable traction oil engine, Westinghouse, Backus (horizontal and vertical), DE LAMATER-ERICSSON Hot-Air pumping engine, and a whole lot more of various “STEAM” related engine items. The book is a bit fragile but complete with a lot of interesting reading while having fun, even in NJ as Hurricane "SANDY" approaches. Here are a few photos of the book and its content.

I bought one at the old county dump in Bakersfield Ca. in 1965,when they used to separate stuff like that and sell it before they burned. I gave 10 cents for it, the best buy I ever made. I used it a lot. I didn't want to wear it out,it is so fragile. A friend told me that Lindsay publications was selling the same book in paper back. I bought one, then I bought another paper back from Amazon.com, they still have them. It is "New Catechism Of The Steam Engine"by N.Hawkins,M.E.Printed by Theo. Audel & Co.1903, Copyright 1897. They are a very good book and they sell for about $4.00, used at Amazon.

The paperback is exactly like the original hard back(437 pages)on good quality paper.

Hey Jerry,
Just a heads up:
LINDSAY BOOKS IS GOING OUT OF BUSINESS!

I got a catalog that said it's the last one and no orders taken after a certain date.

http://www.lindsaybks.com/

Anybody who want anything better get on it.

That's a great find. I have a PDF copy in my computer, but nothing beats a hard copy.

I bought an original off Ebay a few years back. Don't remember what I paid. Haven't really taken time to read it much but it looks interesting.
