Default Maytag 72 governor spacer?

Iím not sure how or where it goes. I assume it goes on the spring end (stretch the spring, put on the spacer then the cap)but I havenít a clue if thatís correct. Also how far in should I have the bottom plug? Right now itís In just enough to clear the block but I also donít know if that matters or if the adjustment should all be from the top end.

The governor adjustment on the 72 is only made by screwing the plug on the crankshaft in or out. Generally even with the surface of the crankshaft is close to what it should be. I'm assuming the "spacer" your referring to is the brass body of the governor that attaches to the spring that attaches to the screw plug. The spring should not be stretched or altered at all. Hope I'm not missing something but others can chime in if I am. Kevin

Here is a listing from flywheel supply that shows the spacer and the way I described it going

I assume that’s the way it goes because I put on and in but it just kept unhooking and falling off but I’m not sure.
