Default Aermotor register?

Is there a Aermotor engine register dates, etc? A few years back someone was going to start a page on the dates of mfg with the serial numbers.

Don't think that ever happened as there is no extant list of dates engines were sold with their serial numbers. If someone would find some bills of sale for some of the engines sold, I think the serial number/letter codes could be broken. Now we just need to find these bills of sale, eh.

There's a thread on this letter from some years ago on this site. Several people I believe advised that with the letters on they're engines, this code doesn't work out. I read an Aermotor advertisement somewhere where they claimed to have sold several hundred engines in New Jersey. Likely they were sold through the many ma/pa hardware stores that dotted the landscape back in the day. If we could find some ledger books from these places, I think we would have a fair chance of finding a recorded sale with the serial number written down. Or at least that would be my hope.

Hi Gene. I have a list of Aermotor 8 cycle engines that I have collected the serial numbers. There are about 50 engines on the list in various states of repair. I would say 40 of them are running engines in collectors hands. The serial numbers differ between the 8 cycles and the sausage and fluted hoppers. There are some exceptions with the 8 cycle engine serial numbers. If your engine has a 5 digit number I can offer assistance. If it has a 4 digit number I cannot pinpoint the year. If you look back in the archives I have discussed this. I do not have the serial numbers on the www.

If anyone has a Aermotor 8 cycle and has not contacted me, please do. I would like to add you to the registry.
Thanks
Frank

Frank, my engine is the later 8 cycle windmill engine with the governor in the flywheel. It is in running condition and just needs some tinkering to make it run better. Pump jack with the wooden skids with no mag just igniter. The letters are E, U, A, M, R. and are very well stamped. As soon as i get some good photos i will send them if you wish, and thanks for your help. Gene

Frank, yes I still have it. I hope one day to hook it up to a pump for display. I have the pump rod and bearing for the engine to connect to the lift bar for the pump. Kevin
