Default 8hp Fairbanks with coupled generator going to Coolspring

How high do you think this engine will go? 8 HP Fairbanks CO. Type B hit miss engine and 5KW Generator. Just a gorgeous piece of equipment.

Ebay #180307797381
(Edit Note: the auctioning and selling is over, but you will be able to see the engine at the Coolspring Power Museum, Coolspring, PA) -- Harry

This is definitely a very neat engine, and if I had money to blow, I would start bidding. Coupled to that generator and the full base make it an interesting set up with an unusual engine design. Its hard to tell what it will bring in price. I was watching that Charter last week and when I thought it was going to stay at about 32,000 it jumped to 45,000 in the last 15 seconds of the auction, so who knows. Nice piece of iron I would like to own.

Same here I just wish i had the money to even think about getting in the bidding war. In my opinion I would rather have this than the Charter. The Charter was nice but I wouldn't have appreciated the historic significant of the engine.

And I know Mike O., the current owner, will appreciate all bids! He would probably do a "Buy it Now" for what the Charter brought

It will go for about 35,000 I think.

I sure wish I had the money to blow on it. That is one of the neatest engines I have seen in a long time.

AND it has a Garwood generator on it!

No matter how high it goes, i bet the winner will be happy, not everyday you will find an engine in that good of condition, it sounds like it is basically brand new!

It has a very unique design as stated already, but I've never seen any engine with valve gear even remotely similar to this one. Could this be the only remaining example of this model of engine? Even if there are more engines like this out there, has anyone ever seen one in a generator set like this one?

The engine has been sold, It will be going to a good home where lots of people will be able to see it run. It is going to the Coolspring power Museum in Coolspring PA. Back to it's home state!

It is an 8 HP Fairbanks Co. (not Fairbanks Morse) Type B industrial vertical engine direct coupled to a 5 KW generator. This engine is as complete as they get and is in as found condition from its original installation. I have the engine, generator, slate control panel with “most” of the controls and the original sign that was on the building. Also have a lot of original wiring and porcelain through wall fittings. This has better then 90 % of its original paint. It runs on gas or gasoline. And it runs really well also. This engine is circa 1901 and was installed in a hotel in Essick Heights PA. Where it was used as a back up power supply, from what I understand the hotel burnt down and went out of business around 1902 so if all is correct this unit has little to no use on it. Some of the really neat features are mechanical intake and exhaust valves with the wackiest rocker arms you would ever want to see they look like the wings of bird flapping wile running. It also has a vertical governor and like I mentioned before it is duel fuel.

Interesting -- Evilbay doesn't show the final sale price. Why is that? Great engine / gen set -- really glad to see it going to a good home where we all will be able to see it in operation.

Just a cranky (and nosy) old guy in Rifton.
