Default Jacobsen Four Acre mower engine

I am looking for some info on my jacobsen engine. I want to know what year it was built. I dont have the name plate for it, but I have noticed that all of the jacobsen engines i have seen have a muffler mounted with two bolts but where the muffler is supposed to be on mine there is a threaded hole probably around 1 in. wide that is tapered. also mine has 1/2 in. pipe thread spark plug do these things mean mine is older or newer than the others. thanks

Question Re: jacobsen four acre mower engine

2 cycle engine or 4? if 2 cycle, it is an earlier model, in the area of 1926-30. What color is the mower? What color is the engine? read the earlier posts on Jacobsen engines!

The 4-Acre engines were 2-stroke. Jacobsen called their mower with the 4-stroke engine a 10-Acre. I have most of a 10-Acre engine (missing the magneto and shroud. A lot of people don't believe that jacobsen ever made a 4-stroke engine.

The 10-Acre operates a lot like a Briggs FH-it has an atmospheric intake valve and an external push rod to operate the exhaust valve.

Exclamation Re: jacobsen four acre mower engine

Jacobsen actually made 2 4 stroke engines. One like the Briggs FH (made for approx. 3 years), and one like a B&S FI, with both valves mechanically operated, (1 year of production) The 4 Acre machines were a 30" cut, and could do 4 acres a day! Rough cut of coarse. The 4 cycle Jacobsens were used on trimming (18") mowers, and green cutting mowers, for lawns that needed a fine cut. ! acre a day for the 4 cycle machines is more like it - they definately did not make the power the 2 strokers did, one of the reasons dthey were discontinued. They also had oiling issues, and cost more than a third more to build over the 2 stroke engines.
