Default Hercules / Economy oiler location question

Does anybody know what year that the drip oiler location moved between being inside the hopper to the back of the hopper?

I am guessing that it had to be in a better location to lube the piston and got put inside the hopper or is it a difference between the Hercules vs. Economy models and maybe sizes?

Thanks for any info.

I'm not sure when the change occurred, the earlier engines had the oiler in back of the hopper on the edge of the cylinder. I'd guess they moved the location in the late teens.

I checked all my engines.

all Sparta are behind hopper.

1914-15 Economy 1-1/2 D behind hopper

1917 & 1919 Economy 1-1/2 E behind hopper

1923 Economy 1-3/4 S inside hopper

I read book, seems like moved to inside hopper in about 1921-22 for Economy.

1915, 1919 and 1920 Hercules 1-1/2 E is inside hopper.

On the 1 1/2 horsepower model E the Hercules version had the oiler in the hopper while the Economy version had the oiler behind the hopper. Later models had the oiler in the hopper. I'm not sure if the oiler behind the hopper lasted to the end of model E production or if it was moved while they were still being made.
